     Prerequisite:  Proper ASSET or COMPASS placement or completion of ENG 
     100 with a grade of C or better.

 

     Course Description: Develops written and oral professional communication skills.

 

     Purpose of Course: To develop speaking and writing skills necessary for effective
     communication on the job.

     Additional Materials: Any additional materials required by an instructor will be 
     announced in class.
    

     Objectives of Course: Students who successfully complete the above course with
     70% accuracy or better will have demonstrated the skills required to accomplish the
     following objectives according to the Department’s Theme Standard Sheet: 

1.      to gather and interpret research for specific audiences and situations
(including a general overview of documentation)

2.      to work with a team to produce at least one document or presentation

3.      to draft, write, and revise a combination of memos and/or letters (to total
at least 500 words)

4.      to outline, draft, write, and revise a process report (minimum 500 words)

5.      to prepare and deliver at least two formal presentations using approved visual aids

6.      to outline, draft, write, and revise a recommendation or proposal for an innovation for or adjustment to a business situation (maximum 500 words)

7.      to draft, write, and revise a job application letter, résumé, and interview
follow-up response

8.      to prepare for and role play a simulated interview based on the job application letter and résumé

9.      to apply business etiquette and ethics to all coursework 

     The Theme Standard Policy will affect the following assignments in ENG 165 –
     process report, recommendation or proposal, job application letter,
résumé, and
     interview follow-up response.
