Course
Description: Presents techniques of creative writing in a
variety of genres. As
a study and application of the principles of
fiction and poetry, it involves a study of basic
techniques, themes, and established artists of
each genre emphasizing student writing,
both assigned and "free," and several
"schools" of poetry and fiction.
Purpose
of Course: To enable the student to effectively write creative works-short
stories, children's literature, poetry-through
guided practice and study of literary
models and criticism.

Objectives
of Course: Students
who successfully complete the above course will
have demonstrated with 70% accuracy or better
the skills required to accomplish
the following minimum objectives:

to produce poems and short stories;

to sharpen critical abilities by gaining practice in analyzing texts
composed by professional writers as well as classmates;

to learn how to offer constructive criticism to other student writers in
a workshop setting.
