Permutations with Repetitions

 

Example:  How many different vertical arrangements are there of 10 flags if 5 are white, 3 are blue, and 2 are red?

We seek the number of permutations of 10 objects, of which 5 are of one kind (white), 3 are of a second kind (blue), and 2 are of a third kind (red).  different arrangements

 

To calculate you will use the factorial function (!). Enter the first value, 10, press MATH, highlight PRB and select 4:!. Then press :. Open the parentheses by pressing (. Enter the next value, 5, press MATH, PRB, and select 4:!. To multiply by 3! ,press x and enter the next value,3. Press MATH,PRB and select 4!.to multiply by 2!. Press x and enter the next value, 2. Press MATH, PRB, and select 4:!. Close the parentheses ) and press ENTER.
