Welcome to Page ONE of the Training Modalities Page!
There are many different modalities that can be used to individualize a client's personal training program. Here at Greenville Technical College the students learn to integrate dumbbells and free-weights with modalities such as the BOSU balance trainers, Swiss Balls, and Medicine Balls. With such an individually diverse population, it is important to design workouts that are enjoyable and effective. These different modalities and training methods allow the trainer to create fun and individualized programs for their clients that can become part of their lifestyle. "In this day and age, integration of a fitness program into ones lifestyle is without a doubt the single most effective way to a higher quality of life."
Training with different modalities allows for increased proprioception, neural recruitment, core stability, balance and FUN! Here Tiffany Reid, Michael Dixon, Patrick Wilson and Valerie Violette demonstrate on the BOSU in SFT 109's lab class.

Here Tiffany and Valerie play follow the leader using stability discs and BOSU balance trainers. This exercise is not only fun but extremely functional in enhancing balance, stability, coordination and motor control. This type of conditioning results in increased neural efficiency, the strengthening of all stabilization musculature, and the increased ability to integrate the senses. In the next photo, Matt Caine utilizes cables and the Swiss ball to perform lateral resistance chops to increase balance and core strength of all the primary and secondary upper body core musculature. One of the most overlooked aspects of a resistance training program is flexibility and strengthening of the entire core musculature. Enhancing these two areas will ease your efforts in everyday activities by increasing overall muscular function and strength, while decreasing back pain.
